Broken Things Shine Brighter 19

So here’s the next chapter of BTSB. So much research went into this one. Why do men not name the different styles of collars and necklines on their shirts? Frustrated costume designer wants to know.

Blue definitely wasn’t expecting to wake up like this. Yeah, he and Razz had been sharing a room, but they weren’t to the point of sharing a bed yet. Razz was still nervous about being touched, and both of them had night terrors after everything they’d been through. Maybe it was one of those that had inspired this. It didn’t really matter why. All that mattered to Blue was how the heck he was going to get out from underneath the sprawled body of his soulmate. It wasn’t anywhere near comfortable, not with his chest still so raw. But Blue knew the rules. If someone falls asleep on top of you, whether they’re a friend, a lover, a family member, or a pet, then you can’t wake them up just because you wanted to move. So Blue was trapped here, under Razz, until he woke up.

Some unknown amount of time passed. It could have been minutes. It could have been hours. Blue had no idea. Eventually, though, Razz yawned, stretched, and sat up. Unfortunately, he was still sitting on Blue, so no freedom yet.

Razz smacked his lips and looked around. He must have sensed something wrong. It was probably just that he was waking up somewhere other than where he had fallen asleep. Whatever it was, he stiffened. Blue, quick to reassure him, said, “hey, razz. what’s up? besides you, that is?”

His soulmate looked down and blinked at him. Then a hand smacked his forehead and he groaned. “PLEASE, NO WORDPLAY BEFORE BREAKFAST. I’M SIMPLY NOT PREPARED FOR IT.”

Blue couldn’t help the cheeky grin that spread like warm butter across his face. “what, the magnificent and terrible razz isn’t ready to handle a measly little pun first thing in the morning? i’m shocked. i thought you said yesterday that you were always vigilant against crimes against the sanctity of the spoken word. always would imply first thing in the morning, too. or is there some special definition of ‘always’ here that i’m not jibing with?”

Purple stars were eclipsed by narrowing eye sockets. “THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I INSTITUTED THIS RULE. I AM EVER VIGILANT ABOUT THIS. I’M JUST NOT CAPABLE OF A DECENT REPLY UNTIL AFTER I’VE EATEN. ALSO, PLEASE NEVER UTTER THE WORD ‘JIBING’ AGAIN UNLESS WE ARE ON A SAILING VESSEL. IT MAKES MY SOUL SHUDDER.”

Blue’s smile spread even wider. “sure thing, razz. i’ll just make a note of that in my ever increasing lexicon of word uses i don’t know. what does j… that action have to do with a sailboat?”

Razz grinned back, pride and smugness radiating down their bond. He seemed to love it when he knew something that Blue didn’t, so Blue now took every opportunity to let him show off. “TO JIBE, OR TO GYBE AS IT IS ALSO SPELLED, MEANS TO CHANGE YOUR SAIL ANGLE AND HEADING WITH THE WIND DOWNWIND. DO YOU WANT ME TO DRAW YOU A DIAGRAM?”

��yeah, why don’t you do that,” Blue said, always eager for new knowledge. “but first can you get off my chest? it kinda hurts to have you on top of the bandages.”

Razz clamored off of him, blushing. “OF COURSE! LET ME GO GET A NOTEBOOK WHILE YOU GET DRESSED. ACTUALLY, DON’T. MUFFET MENTIONED THAT YOU NEEDED SOME NEW CLOTHES. YOU ARRIVED… NEARLY TWO WEEKS AGO? WOWIE, IT CERTAINLY FEELS LIKE LONGER THAN THAT. EITHER WAY, WE SHOULD GET YOU SOMETHING NICER THAN THOSE RAGS YOU’RE WEARING.”

Blue looked down at his clothes. “i thought they looked pretty nice…” Then he took in the holes, stains, and fraying hems. “at least, they used to. stars, when was the last time i had new clothes? it feels like forever ago.”

“IT PROBABLY WAS,” Razz said tactlessly. “IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BEFORE YOU CAME HERE, AND ALMOST CERTAINLY BEFORE THAT HUMAN OF YOURS FELL DOWN.”

He winced. “true. well, come on, then. let’s at least get some breakfast before she subjects me to her measuring tape. and you can draw me that diagram. i really do want to know about this ‘gybing’ business.”

Razz grinned. “DEAL.”

The third human made it significantly farther than the last two had. Slim was sure that he would need to recheck his cameras. Something must have gone wrong with them for him not to be alerted until the human reached the long bridge. Then again, that was why he had so many of them. No matter how many failed, there would always be another one to catch the human in the act of moving through the Underground.

Slim shortcutted in behind the human. The first thing he noticed was his hair. It was a bright orange. Then he noticed how pale his skin was. Neither of those things meant much to him other than the fact that he had never seen them before. He was sure they would mean something to another human, though, just like the colour of another monster’s soul told him something about them. He wondered whether humans knew about soul traits. Surely they had to notice that people didn’t all behave the same? Maybe that just didn’t matter as much to them as it did to a monster. To him, the colour of a monster’s soul was a huge indicator of how he needed to act around them. Then again, he didn’t go around dragging out people’s souls just to see what colour they were. It used to be because he didn’t care. Now it was because it was rude.

He wasn’t sure what alerted the human to his presence, but something did. He spun around to face Slim. That was when Slim noticed the freckles. There were so many freckles. So many.

“Monster! What’s your name?” The human shouted.

“slim,” he answered simply.

The human grinned. “I’m Sean, and I’m on a quest! Are you prepared to help me with it?”

Slim shrugged. “depends on the quest. i’m kind of on one of my own, and if there’s a conflict of interest i’m going to go with mine. sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry!” Sean insisted. “That’s just the nature of a quest! Now, my quest is to find the voice behind the door. I have a message for the monster that chats with my friend, who I promised I wouldn’t name! I’m prepared to fight any number of monsters in order to complete my quest! Can you help me, or do I need to fight you, too?”

“heh, kid, you don’t want to fight me. i’m pretty sure that i’m the monster you’re looking for. i’ve been telling knock knock jokes with a voice on the other side of the big door for years,” Slim said with a grin.

Sean narrowed his eyes. “Why? You have to tell me because the other monster told me what you’re supposed to say.”

Suspicion. Slim admired that in a monster. He wished he didn’t have to admire it in a human. “i do it so i can perfect my most annoying jokes to use on my brother. he hates puns, deeply, and i love getting to see his face when i deliver a whopper. you could say it’s a san… actually, never mind the pun. it’s funny.”

Sean smiled and shot him a thumbs up. “You got it right! Okay, here’s your message: I heard about the revolution. Next time you have time, come tell me about it, please.”

Slim froze. How… how had he heard about that? As far as Slim knew, he was the only person this guy behind the door ever talked to. Why did he care? He lived behind the door. What did the world on this side of it matter to him? “th-thanks, bud. now, uh… do you know what’s coming next?”

Sean nodded. “I’m going to get to see my dad again. It’s okay, Slim. I knew what was going to happen when I left the man behind the door. He’s got a bunch of us living there, but he only sends through the ones who are ready to die. My dad… my dad was killed by a mountain lion. He was trying to save me from dying. I wanted to fight it, but… I fell down a hole and ended up here. I want to be with my dad again. I’m not afraid to die. Besides, helping an imprisoned species to escape to freedom is badass!”

“heh, you’re not wrong there, kid. are you sure you’re ready to die?” Slim needed to hear it confirmed one last time.

“Yep!” Sean said, sitting down on the edge of the bridge. “Just try to make it fast. I don’t really want to bleed to death. That’s… how my dad died. It looked like it really hurt. Not that I’m afraid of pain! I just don’t want it to be the last thing I feel.”

Slim summoned his weapon. It’s citrine fire rose like smoke from the glaive’s blade. “i can help you with that. now, do you have any last words?”

The human considered. “Death to all tyrants?”

Slim chuckled. “you can’t get more badass than that. okay. close your eyes.” The human did, and Slim swung his blade. Just like he had promised, there was no pain. An orange soul floated into the air, and Slim captured it in the vacuum tube. “heh. three down, four to go.”

Blue stared at the latest sketch Muffet had produced for him. “no. i’m not wearing that.”

“Oh, please, Blue! This design is all the rage amongst the upper crust! They love these bouffant sleeves at the moment, and the asymmetrical hemline would be absolutely darling on you!” Muffet wheedled.

“i’m not wearing a dress, muffet, no matter how good you think it would look on me! i’m not a girl, and i really don’t like it when people think i am!” Blue shouted back.

“So you have worn one, then,” Muffet said smugly. He hated that smug expression. This wasn’t some kind of gotcha game where the winner was the one who got the most information out of the other. This was way more serious than that! This was a matter of what he was going to wear, and he took what he wore very seriously! … Okay, no, that was a lie. He liked to put as little energy into his appearance as possible. And yeah, he got that right now that reflected badly on her, but that didn’t mean he could be convinced to wear a dress!

“yes, muffet, i’ve worn a dress before. i was a curious kid. i wanted to know what one felt like. i didn’t like it. everyone acted like i was a different person that had to obey different rules and i hated it. so, no dress, and that’s final.” He meant it, too. He wasn’t going to budge on this one.

“I suppose that’s fair,” Muffet said with a sigh, “Not everyone is up to bending the laws of gender expression. That’s a shame. Well, then, how about this?” Muffet held up her latest sketch. Blue studied it.

He could see that the top would be roomy on him, which was something they had negotiated earlier. He hated tight clothing. The sleeves were three quarter length and would fall just beyond his elbows. The sleeve was a notched turnback hem, although he probably wouldn’t turn it back. The hem of the shirt was the same length all the way around, which he liked. The neck was a shallow v neck, the kind that was used on sweaters and had reinforced stitching. The pants only had the words “classic blue jeans” written on them. He could dig that. There was only one thing about this set up that he didn’t like.

“i need a hood, muffet. it’s a thing for me, hoods. they’re safe.”

Muffet eyed him thoughtfully. “I think I can accommodate that. A hood would definitely change the lines, but I think it would work better on you. Here,” She grabbed the sketch, erased the neckline, and sketched in a simple hood. “Does this look better?”

Blue slowly nodded. “looks good to me. what kind of material were you thinking about using?”

“Dearie, were you really thinking I was only going to make you one copy? You need at least three changes of clothes, and I also want to make you a set of formal wear and pajamas. I’ll sketch those up in a minute. For now why don’t you go pick out the fabrics that appeal to you the most? Go for at least three. You know what textures work best for you.”

Blue nodded amiably. He ambled over to the cabinet and started going through the choices. Eventually he settled on a plain steely blue, medium-weight, soft knit fabric, a soft, navy blue swirled, lightweight cotton, and a thicker flannel with a pretty blue, black, and purple check pattern. Those seemed like good options to him. They would cover the range of temperatures that could be found in the Underground, and the textures and colours all appealed to him. He brought the bolts back for Muffet to inspect.

She nodded absently. “Those look nice, dearie. How do these designs work?”

The first design was obviously the formal one. It was a three piece suit over a button up and tie. He reluctantly resigned himself to an outfit without a hood. They just weren’t what you wore in a formal setting. The second outfit was a short-sleeved caftan with a reinforced neckline and simple geometric embroidery sketched out. It looked comfy, and, with only one piece, was definitely lazy enough for him. For a moment he considered protesting something so close to a dress, but decided against it. Besides, the design was very obviously masculine, and he wouldn’t be wearing it around anyone who didn’t know him well.

“they work for me, muff. do you want me to pick fabrics for them, too?” He asked.

It was Muffet’s turn to nod. “Go ahead, I’ll get started on the full patterns.”

Blue set out and found another set of fabrics for the clothes. The suit itself would be in a slick grey. The button up would be white, and the tie would be a bright blue to match his magic. The caftan fabric he picked was a nice linen done up in a light purple and blue tye-dye. He picked the softest fabric he could that would still work for the design, and the tye-dye appealed to his inner kid.

When he showed the fabrics to Muffet she nodded approvingly. “Those work nicely. Now, why don’t you pick a fabric and start cutting?”

He saluted jovially. “yes ma’am. right away ma’am.”

Muffet’s eight eyes were twinkling when she said back to him, “Good work, soldier. I expect you to do as good a job as you did on the former Queen’s dress.”

“you got it!” With that, Blue grabbed a bolt of fabric and got to work.

192. Sonic the Hedgehog #124

Sonic Adventure 2.5: Λlphλ

All right everyone, we've finally made it to the "Endgame" of the fourth era! While it's not quite as epic and game-changing, this story, spanning this issue and the next, alters the setting and the plot quite a bit, and also sees the return of Shadow the Hedgehog, whom we only got to see a quick cameo of back in Sonic Adventure 2. Also, amusingly, the word "Alpha" in the title is actually spelled with the Greek letter Lambda, not the actual letter Alpha. I know it's for the Aesthetic™ and all, but it's still funny. But anyway, let's jump in and see what this era's finale has in store for us!

So first, we learn the story of how Shadow survived his fall from orbit. Turns out, he didn't actually fall at all! Before he entered the atmosphere, he was caught in a beam from an alien spaceship, and brought aboard.

Well now, isn't this interesting! These are the same aliens that transformed Eggman and Snively back to their organic forms a few issues ago. It seems they're quite interested in meddling in the affairs of the planet, for whatever reason, and now they're using Shadow as a method of escaping from a second spaceship full of different aliens who appear to be quite aggressive. Shadow tries to fight back against them, but the ship hits him with an energy beam, and he begins to lose consciousness once again, falling back towards the atmosphere just as before. Meanwhile back in Knothole, Sonic wakes up, seemingly excited about something big today. He races to Knothole Castle where he kisses Sally hello, the two now openly dating now that they've admitted their true feelings for each other. She asks him if he's ready to "pop the question," to which he says he… is… wait, what question is this, Sally?! You can't mean…

At the same time, in Station Square, the president finds himself contacted by Eggman, who tries to make him a deal to become allies in exchange for advanced technology and protection. Of course, he's trying to propose an alliance to the same people who literally nuked his city because they didn't like him, so this goes about as well as you expect. Naturally, Eggman doesn't like this response one bit.

Rouge swoops in to save the president and his driver as the car careens into a river, but just as they think they've escaped danger, the entire false sky above the city shatters under the attack from a mysterious foe… But before we find out who has done this, it's time to find out what question Sonic is supposed to be asking.

…okay, honestly, this is just bizarre to me. I get that absolute monarchies tend to want to marry their heirs off young to secure alliances, but really? These two haven't even properly dated yet, beyond a little these past months (as at least a couple months are implied to have passed since Sally's kidnapping), and now at the age of sixteen they're planning a future wedding? This entire bit seems so weirdly out of character for both Sally and Sonic, if you ask me. The comic has flirted with the idea of marriage between the two in the past, but that was mostly during the earlier issues when each story was only focused on being silly and telling a funny, self-contained story. Obviously, these two have had a deep crush on each other for years now, and have a lot of chemistry in their own way, but a de facto engagement between the two of them is just strange. Sally is much more pragmatic than that, having broken off a potential relationship once before in favor of focusing on her official duties, and as for Sonic, we've been directly shown before that he's flighty, afraid of commitment, and generally prefers casual friendships to heavily romantic relationships. Now, this might make more sense if you instead view it as an announcement of convenience, a plot concocted by the both of them to get Sally's parents off her back about being married off to a "suitable partner" as the future ruler of the kingdom. If it were portrayed this way, then maybe I could give this a pass. But we're given no such inkling that it's anything other than exactly what it appears to be. And that, to me, makes this plot point a completely bizarre departure from the usual attitudes of both these characters to romance and relationships. Even weirder, as we'll see, this doesn't even affect the plot of the comic at all in future issues - while there's a reference to it here and there, it's nothing plot-important and could have easily been written out without much trouble.

Anyway, Sonic runs out to investigate the boom only to find Shadow lying in a crater outside the castle. Man, lucky for him that he just so happened to land here instead of literally anywhere else, huh? Sonic approaches him and Shadow lashes out in confusion, knocking Sonic aside, before coming to and apologizing. All this does is rile Sonic up and he tries to attack Shadow in retaliation. Really, Sonic? You thought Shadow was freaking dead, and the moment you see him again you try to punch his lights out? Sally, luckily, steps in to reprimand him for his behavior, and Nicole contacts her, telling her there's an emergency message for them back at the castle. The Freedom Fighters, along with Shadow, follow her back in, where both Eggman and Rouge contact the royal family simultaneously, each claiming their cities have been attacked by an overwhelmingly strong foe. Shadow confirms that this is likely an attack from the same vessel he had just been fighting, but then… something happens. A telepathic message spreads out across the globe, echoing in the minds of every single sentient being on the planet, demanding the attention of the "inhabitants of planet Earth…"

Well, this is bad. And now, they're back to finish what they started… Eggman panics and tries to immediately get King Max to agree to an alliance of convenience, but Max cuts him off without another word, justifying his actions to his shocked onlookers as making sure Eggman is good and ready to accept a truce on his terms by making him sweat a bit first. Sonic expresses confusion that the aliens seem to be confusing Mobius with another planet called Earth, but they get a call from Angel Island at that moment where Locke offers his assistance. Of course the Freedom Fighters ask about Knuckles, and he sorrowfully informs them that he's dead. They're shocked and saddened, but don't have time to mourn, as they have to prove the Xorda wrong about their planet. Sally begins some research into the history of the planet, but Hope unexpectedly steps forward, offering her own insight into how the Xorda ended up here in the first place.

Oh boy, Shadow, I sense we're going to have some emotional turmoil over Hope in our future. Also, I just wanna note that this issue claims that the Xorda were last here three thousand years ago, but future issues retcon this into twelve thousand years. Anyway, Sally soon discovers something shocking in her research… Mobius and Earth are, in fact, the same planet!

This. Is. It! This is the big reveal that I've been so carefully dancing around for almost two hundred issues! I have been meticulously wording every reference to Mobius being an "Earth-like planet" to be spoiler-free but also totally accurate in the light of this reveal. Yes, ladies, gents and enbies, the Archie Sonic preboot takes place twelve thousand years into our own future. The first Xorda invasion was, in fact, the first recorded Day of Fury, which is why it's recorded as having wiped out nearly all life on the planet. And this is also the origin of the split between five fingered humans, and four fingered Overlanders. The humans survived underground, unaffected by the gene bombs dropped by the Xorda, while the Overlanders are the result of, essentially, re-evolved humans that were affected by the gene bombs. And as for Mobians? Well, we are talking about a weapon called a gene bomb, so Mobians obviously came about through severe mutations caused by said bombs, eventually becoming the dominant species of the planet! This is why the planet's continents look very similar to those of Earth, with the differences easily explained by not only twelve thousand years of continental drift, but the massive geographical alterations that such a dramatic cataclysm would have caused on the planet. All those old references to previous Earth civilizations exist because those things actually happened, even if the people making said references no longer know what the Confederate States were, or who the Aborigines were. I know this reveal wasn't particularly liked by a lot of readers, and certainly without the context of the previous two hundred issues it sounds downright absurd (hell, even with the context it kind of does), but in the end my personal opinion is that this was a bit of a masterstroke on Karl's part. It's a great way to tie a lot of old plot threads together and develop a more cohesive and solid history for Mobius as a planet, and ultimately provides us with a more clear timeline of events for the various races and civilizations of the world. And it's all thanks to a species of creepy vengeful Mother Brain octopus alien things deciding to commit genocide!

Afterlife (Part Four)

So, Kenders. With the big milestone issue fast approaching, is there anything you wanna add in this next installment of Afterlife? Like, perhaps, finally addressing what exactly is supposed to, y'know, happen in the afterlife? Knuckles certainly wants to know, having spent the last two issues doing nothing but reliving his entire previous life verbatim. Aurora explains that though he feels it's unfair that he died, it was unavoidable, as he simply came into his power too quickly and couldn't temper it or learn to control it quickly enough to pull off his saving-Dimitri stunt without essentially going supernova.

This part actually does interest me, because Knuckles' reaction implies that until now, the fact of his death hasn't fully sunken in. He seems to be under the impression that he can come back from it and just resume his life where he left off, instead of traveling onward into the next phase of life. Aurora apologizes and explains that everyone only gets one chance at life, and beckons him toward the mystical portal to the Chaos Force. Knuckles requests only one more thing, to become his normal red self once more, and when Aurora gently corrects him that he doesn't need her help for that, he finds himself instantly back to his old color scheme with a mere thought, which raises the minor question of whether he would have been able to revert back to red all along, or whether it's due to the malleable nature of existence in the afterlife that he's able to do so now. Regardless, the reign of Green Knuckles over the comic's B-stories has finally ended, and Rad Red steps into the portal, ready to claim his destiny. And thus, we get ready to say goodbye to our favorite echidna once and for all, as he takes his place amongst the… wait, hang on a second…

Good old Athair! I missed you, buddy. Aurora tries to argue that Knuckles should still advance forward into the Chaos Force, but Athair merely frowns and crosses his arms, leaving the ending of this story ambiguous… and ripe for a true conclusion next issue, as we hit another major milestone in the history of the comic!

Welcome to a Late Show I'm Steve Colbert happy birthday everybody today is a big one because it is the 50th birthday the big 5 oh and I got to say earth is still looking good she's just getting hotter every year I mean even with the receding glaciers and put on a little water weight around the coastline and earth is having kind of a moment right now cause with people staying home the earth is turning wilder cleaner with reduce CO2 better air quality and animals roaming the city streets turns out the best present for Earth Day is the same as the best present for Mother's Day time away from her children just get all the unruly humans out of her hair so mother earth can sit in a bubble bath and watch Outlander now while human stay inside the world cities are getting reclaimed by the animals a Puma roamed the streets of Santiago Chile in India hungry monkeys have been entering homes and opening refrigerators to look for food and coyotes have been seen along Chicago's Michigan Avenue a coyote on Michigan Ave that's crazy usually what with the traffic they have to take Lakeshore drive so don't be surprised if you see a wild animal wandering into your normal environment oh God here's one now come here come here oh God is the wild snuggle spaniel he scavenging for smoke Jays oh who's reclaiming the earth from the humans you are art he loves Maine he loves this here bye gunboats there just as dangerous as their flying carpets it's a whole new world a new fantastic point of view no what how's it go no no or where do you go don't you dare close your eyes what trump's responding to is video from the Navy showing that Iranian vessels harassed American warships in the Arabian Sea OK that's not good but why tweet about Iran now for that matter why in new ban on immigration no one can fly anyway right now you might as well ban mosh pits but I have a theory a theory I tell you about these random tweets trump's approval ratings are falling and 2/3 of Americans say he was too slow to respond to the virus disapproval of trump is spreading faster than than something whatever spreads really quickly if you're dumb enough to ignore it so he is desperate to change the subject and I’m not the only one who is noticed it House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said this yesterday ignores his own responsibility and assigns blame instead of taking responsibility paying attention to science recognizing the word of the role of governance and all of this to get the job done for the American people and so he's engaged in distractions like immigration distractions like supporting people in the street they're all distractions away from the fact that known fact that he's a total failure when it comes to testing Mr. President you may want to get tested because that was one sick Blood Moon (End Times)

what r your thoughts on these blood moons do you see them as part of the end times prophetic teachings about these signs occurring with greater frequency & intensity?

Matthew 24, but it seems different translations presents it as birth pangs that intensify but others just call it the beginning of sorrows

C: Oh the birth pains is actually an allusion when Eve is told in great pain she will give birth because Eve was an incarnation of the Holy Spirit. I need to think on the moon not giving it's light portion

what part of scripture says that Eve is Holy Spirit?

C: There's no direct statement but you can see it if you know enough scripture. I think I can at least get your foot in the door on it though

I would think it's closer to the birthing of sin from desire. James 1:14-15 | But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is fully grown, gives birth to death. Since it's giving birth to SORROWs.

and the fruits of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23

C: That doesn't necessarily contradict God's word saying the birthing would come with great pains. If it came with no pains that would contradict God's word. And it actually does say in both pain and sorrow

I have no issue with pain, it's just that I don't think the Holy Spirit is birthing pain & sorrow. It is after all Matthew 24 we're talking about, which deals with the end times, so wouldn't darkness = evil, when it's allowed to flare since the Holy Spirit will no longer restrain it. 2 Thessalonians 2:7, which reads, “For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.”

C: The holy spirit doesn't birth pain and sorrow. In births life IN pain and sorrow It's no different than us repenting. The holy spirit didn't cause us to sin, but in the midst of our sin we accepted Christ to be born again.

I don't see the connection between what you're saying & how it could relate to Matthew 24

C: 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains. 9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death,

A Jew's offering is their life. So these wars and famines will lead to the death of Jewish Christians. But it is the evidence that they persevered to the end and are truly born of the Holy Spirit.

J: where do you get that only Jewish Christians will die?

C: Not only them. Gentile Christians have certainly died. But life is the Jew's offering and a gentile's offering is returning a Jew to God. "saints" is usually a term reserved for Jews. Paul is the only author you'll see expanding it to include gentiles since his ministry was focused on an "everybody is one" message. But John wrote Revelation and his target audience was Jews since he uses so much Hebrew terminology and references Daniel without citations. That's where we find the souls of the saints under the alter in Heaven and they cry out for fair judgement. Only Jews knew fair judgement since they held the knowledge of good and evil passed down through the law. Blood under the alter comes from making a sacrifice according to the law of Moses. So we know these souls are offerings according to God's law. But the Bible says a Gentile will return a Jew to God as a Jew would make his offering. So a gentile doesn't necessarily have to die, just go after the lost sheep of Israel.

J: where are you getting all this? do you have specific scripture?

C: Revelation 6 9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” 11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been. Leviticus 4 He is to put some of the blood on the horns of the altar that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting. The rest of the blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the tent of meeting.Revelation 12 17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. (Woman is Israel, so the descendants of Israel who have the testimony of Christ are Jewish Christians) Genesis 4 10 The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. 11 Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand (Abel, a son of God, his blood cried out for justice. Isaiah 11 In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious. 11 In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the surviving remnant of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, from Elam, from Babylonia, from Hamath and from the islands of the Mediterranean. 12 He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel; he will assemble the scattered people of Judah from the four quarters of the earth.

J: so do you dismiss Paul's writings because he's the 'only author you'll see expanding it to include gentiles'? When I read the Bible, I get the impression is that we as believers are commissioned to spread the Gospel to all the world, not just Jews. But if you feel it's Jew specific maybe your calling is to minister to your fellow Jewish community?

C: No. I just recognize he had different goals. But I do see the wisdom of it. Because Paul says "don't let any man judge you" "eat whatever, don't worry about the law" "take your Sabbath whenever you want" But Jesus said "Think not I came to destroy the law" "You Pharisees pay your tithes and neglect the more important aspect of the law which is love. You should have done both without neglecting either one" So you see Paul says focus on the bigger matters and Jesus says don't neglect the small to focus on the big. We are called to spread the gospel to everyone. To the Jew first and then to the Gentile. And judgement will come separately. To the Jew first and then to the Gentile. But the importance of spreading it to the Jew is that worldwide resurrection and Jesus' return will only happen when the Jews have repented and accepted Christ

J: "the remnant" of the Jews, most will perish still, unfortunately.. oh yeah the 144,000 who will evangelize the world

C: But because the Bible says Gentile Christians will learn God's ways from Jewish Christians after Jesus returns, Paul has them focus on love and then they can learn the small things later. So more souls are saved by being lenient with them

J: didn't Peter say that too in Acts 15

C: Yep. Idk if that's my calling tbh 😅 But idk! It makes sense since it was revealed to me.

J: But I still don't see where it says Gentiles Christians will learn from the Jews. It probably is since our interests & goals come from God, I mean He directs our paths right? Not when we choose to disobey but the other stuff that is spiritual & obviously the things of God

C: Isaiah 2 In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. 3 Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 4 He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. 5 Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord.

That's definitely a section that can't be "spiritualized" by modern churches. The nations (gentiles) will seek the descendants of Jacob. Not "Israel". "Mountains" are usually symbolic for "Nation". So the Mountain of the Lord, Zion, is the nation of the descendants of Jacob who accepted Christ.

We see that war is over. So this is after Christ returns. So the people who come to seek God's ways are the people who were not sent to hell. So they're the Gentile Christians

C: Yep! Just like Revelation says that there will be the 144,000 and other people from every nation who hold palm branches. Which is an interesting allusion since the people waiting for Jesus had palm branches, right?

J: That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths.” [Isaiah 2:3] this signifies we will learn from God.

C: All nations will stream to the Mountain. And Jesus prayer to was that we would be in God as he was in God. So the meticulousness towards the word that Jews have would fully put them as One in God as Jesus was without blemish.

Revelation 7 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.

Building Peace through Art

Hyppolite Ntigurirwa has a vision for peace. After witnessing the horrors of genocide, he turned to the transformative power of art to help spread his message of peace. He formed a theater group at his school in Rwanda as a way to unite students from different ethnic groups. “We witnessed the power of performing arts to bring people together, challenging the status quo and starting the long process of social change,” he said of the experience. Since then, Hyppolite has continued to use theater as a tool for healing, reconciliation, and peacebuilding in post-conflict communities both in Rwanda and abroad.

This fall, Hyppolite participated in International Art & Artists’ J-1 scholar program. He is completing an artist-in-residence program with Arts Connect International, an organization that cultivates and connects leaders in the arts field committed to cultural and social inclusion. The program has given Hyppolite the opportunity to connect with other artists and social activists, acquire key arts management skills, and further develop his artistic body of work. “My experience with Arts Connect International has been a fantastic opportunity to grow as an entrepreneurial artist and leader,” Hyppolite said. Here are some insights into Hyppolite’s time in Boston with Arts Connect International.

Can you tell us a bit about your unique perspective and background, and how it has helped you to become an arts leader?

At the young age of seven in Rwanda, a few months after surviving the genocide against the Tutsi, I was frustrated by not finding a means to tell the horror I experienced and transmitting my message to the larger community. I was not able to recount my story and transmit my message of peace until a teacher helped me create a theatre club. Since the club included children from both survivors’ families and perpetrators’ families, it wasn’t easy to start up as an inclusive community just after the genocide. However, we experienced the power of performing arts when the whole community enjoyed our performances and everyone showed their support. I continued to use theatre as a vessel for peace both in high school and college, and now I combine my experiences of genocide with sociological theories, practices, and theatre techniques to help prevent the inter-generational transmission of hatred.

Tell us more about your experience so far with Arts Connect International.

Working with Arts Connect International, as a global change agent, has been really useful to me in many ways. First of all, having been the first international artist to be selected for their Artist-in-Residence program was a tremendous asset to me in terms of accessing artistic and leadership skills, knowledge, and the experiences of all sorts of people in Boston. Arts Connect International not only provides this exposure but also provides professional and applicable guidance to having a greater impact on the community at large.

What is your favorite cultural activity to do in Boston?

Boston is a hub of people with passion for social change and innovation. There is always a lot going on in the city! There are loads of historical sites, including museums, freedom trails, and educational institutions. My favorite cultural activities in Boston include attending amazing networking and discussion events on social change and visiting different tourist spots (both historical and modern). The best part about being in Boston is organizing an event and having people attend.

What have you learned during your J-1 program?

During my residence with Arts Connect International, I have gained the extensive knowledge, skills and resources necessary to further my professional work and career as an artistic director. Among other things, I have gained experience and learnt a great deal about program management; arts project management, playwriting techniques, and sociometric techniques in theatre. I’ve also acquired strategic planning skills, leadership skills, budget and project management skills, communication skills, fundraising skills, and cross-cultural competency skills. Last but not least, I’ve learnt about monitoring and evaluation, arts education and pedagogy, creating a theory of change model, digital marketing and promotion, as well as entrepreneurial and development models for individual and organizations.

What does cultural exchange mean to you?

As far as how I interpret cultural exchange, I understand “cultural exchange” to include sharing experiences, values, knowledge, skills and customs with the mission of making the world an infinitely more inclusive and peaceful place.
